Growth Strategy • Segment Innovation • Insight Storytelling
27,000+ franchised North American restaurants, almost double McDonald's footprint at half the revenue, and mornings running far below capacity. Subway asked what growth was hiding in plain sight.
01 · The business problem
The problem was the segment. School cafeterias, a market Subway had never touched, represented $60-$110M in total contract value over three years. Winning it meant disrupting a category dominated by incumbent suppliers, and convincing a chief digital officer that a sandwich company could feed schools before the lunch rush even started.
02 · What I saw
“The insight wasn't operational; it was human. I am Isabella. I feel dizzy and the hours drag before lunch. Feed the insight, and the operations follow.”
03 · The strategy
01
Personify the student insight, hunger before lunch, focus after.
02
Turn underutilized morning capacity into a new revenue line for franchisees.
03
A phased pilot with funding gates, not a leap.
04 · The work

The opportunity, mornings running below capacity.

The case, franchise economics for a brand-new segment.

I am Isabella, the student insight at the heart of it.

The ask, a phased pilot with funding gates.
05 · My role

06 · The result
